Casting: William, Tenah, Dan and Alessandro's Auditions

I have been in contact with all of the actors that have applied for roles in the film since I wanted to see some variation in how actors interpreted the roles. Auditionees that really stood out were William, Tenah and Alessandro. They all responded quickly and seemed extremely interested. I asked if they could come down and audition, but Tenah and Alessandro were too far away to come for a quick audition, so they filmed performances of themselves. It was mainly the location issue that both of these auditionees didn't get the part, as the auditions were quite strong.

William however was able to make it to Norwich to show me his acting skill and read through the script. He was friendly, enthusiastic and we went to the filming locations to give him an idea of what the product would look like. He read the script with us, giving his own spin to the character of Ray, making him seem more uptight and sarcastic, which added depth to his interpretation of what we'd told him about the character.

Joe introduces me to Dan as someone he knew through a friend of his, saying that he was an actor and had performed bits and pieces to him before. We got in contact with him and we arranged an audition, so we went to the filming location and talked through the project with him, as we did with William. He also seemed extremely interested, but he had more of an extroverted personality, which enforced my opinion that he would make a great Ali, an extroverted character. We then went through the script, reading for Ali and Ray. He played the character up to his strengths and this secured his place in the production.

Tenah was a strong candidate for Tracy but due to scheduling problems, she couldn't be back in the country in time to film. Alessandro lives in Edinburgh, which would be hard to organise travel for.

Audition: Justin/Casting development

Justin
Through the website StarNow, I have had numerous applications for the roles. One of which that stood out to me the most was Justin Eade, a local acting teacher that was very interested in the script. He was extremely enthusiastic about the parts of Ray and Trevor and I think he fits the part of Trevor rather well and as we have had a lot of applications for the part of Ray, I would like to try out as many people as possible. Whilst I have requested videos from the others who love further away, I feel an audition is the best way to cast and for all those that are local, will encourage they go through the audition process. We decided on Monday 6th to meet up, audition him and possibly walk through the locations within the woods we intend to film to get a picture of the aesthetic.

I have attracted 13 applications including Justin for the various roles, and I have received messages back from several of them expressing their interest
and willingness to travel, all of which are pictured below with the parts they auditioned for.

Ten, applying for Alice
Alessandro, applying for Ray
Lewis, applying for Ray

                 William, applying for Trevor
I would like to speak with some applicants to see if they would switch parts. For example, I believe that Ten would   play Tracy excellently and we have other applicants for Alice. The            casting page will remain active until late october so I should hopefully      continue to attract applicants.

Casting

Once again, I am using StarNow to attract actors to appear in my short film. This is the application I put up on the website to interest potential talent. This is because of the success I received last year un my AS production (Fatal Motive) with the website. An issue so far is that actors are applying across the country, whereas I would prefer them to be local for convenience. I am in the process of messaging them individually to see how their travel arrangements fit with my plans.
